THE DJEBEL TOUBKAL

RIDING IN MOROCCO: Circuit in the Toubkal massif, the highest peak of the Atlas, starting from Tahannaout, 32 km south of Marrakesh.

Duration: 8 days / 7 nights - Horseback riding trail 6 days. Advanced level, good physical conditions required.

Day 1: Welcome in Marrakesh and night in the hotel.
Day 2 - 7: Transfer to Tahannaout. Horseback riding trail. Four nights in the tent and one night with inhabitants. Transfer to Marrakesh and visitation of the city. Night in the hotel.
Day 8: Transfer to the airport and return flight.

High altitude trail! We start from a plateau overlooking the village of Tahannaout, which is located near the natural preserve of Toubkal. Some of the villages we cross on our trail are over 3000 meters above the sea, which allows a splendid view over deep and steep valleys. Many of the paths are only used by the Berber, the native mountain people and sometimes crossing them by feet is unavoidable.

The mountainsides are covered with aromatic plants like thyme, lavender and rosemary and a great diversity of flowers. Big boulder fields melt together with houses of stone and clay that cover the hillsides. Indistinguishable at first glance the houses seem to be embedded in the colour of the land.

After the hike we visit the main historical and cultural sites of Marrakesh and mingle with the lively crowd that swarms through the medina, the souk and the famous place Djemâa el Fna.

Duration: 8 days including 6 on the horseback.

On request we can shorten the horseback riding trail by one day to be able to visit Marrakesh in more detail.
