THE DESERT

The desert is fascinating. The vastness and the bareness of the landscape leave the impression of being suddenly alone in the world and yet the desert is alive. Behind each corner emerges life that is not the result of a mirage, be it an animal, be it a shepherd or a lonesome tree.

Morocco's south has many faces which overwhelm by their contrasts: Some parts are strongly marked by the aridity that prevails. Deep crevices in the ground and less than no flora give the desert its special flair. Other parts appear as paradise with its rich green palm grooves and its prospering fields. It seems like life is reborn from the sparkling turquoise water that nourishes the oases.

From time to time we cross camel caravans, which enhance the feeling of a different time and world. Camels with their imperturbably calmness and gentle comportment appear to be the ships of the desert between oceans of sand and rocks.

The desert cannot be explained, it has to be experienced! Everything here takes us away from the reality of the modern world, and the endlessness of the open land awakes in us a feeling of freedom and inner peace.
